Chief Martin Greene has been a firefighter with the Bourne Fire Department since 1981. In 1985 the Chief was appointed as a career firefighter/paramedic. He rose from within the Department and was appointed Fire Chief in January of 2011.
He is a charter member of the Department of Fire Services, District One Hazardous Materials Response Team, one of the most prominent hazardous materials teams in the country.
Shortly after joining the hazardous materials response team, he started at the Department of Fire Services / Massachusetts Fire Academy instructing in hazardous materials/CBRNE response to members of the fire service, law enforcement, public health and state and federal agencies. He was later appointed as the Coordinator of Hazardous Materials & Counterterrorism Training for the Fire Academy. After serving in that position he advanced within the Department of Fire Services to become the Deputy Director of the Hazardous Materials Response program in Massachusetts. In the position of Deputy Director he responded statewide with District Hazmat teams as a consultant to many cities and towns at major and minor hazardous materials incidents that impacted their community.
His continued to flourish throughout his career holding many state and national certifications to include Incident Safety Officer (Fire Suppression & Hazardous Materials), Fire Instructor III, Fire Officer IV and is credentialed by the Massachusetts Fire Service Commission as a Chief Fire Officer. He has presented nationally at several hazardous materials and fire service conferences on Hazardous Materials Response and Incident Management. He is currently a consultant for, and a member of the International Association of Fire Chief’s (IAFC) Hazardous Materials Committee.
Chief Greene retired from the Bourne Fire Department on February 27, 2015 and remains a member of the IAFC Hazmat committee and involved in teaching and consulting in hazardous Materials/CBRNE and incident management response.
